7 Best Bike Maintenance Tips For Monsoon Season 2024

During the rainy season, we have to be more careful with our bikes because the chances of brake down of bike increase in the rainy season.

On a rainy day, the problems of watermarks on the bike engine (mostly on Royal Enfield Bikes) problems of rusting on your bike chrome area, or on nuts & bolts also switch wires not working properly, your bike starts making a different type of sounds. These are common problems I think you all bikers faced.

The combination of Rain and Bikes is very bad. I will tell you How do I take care of my bike in monsoon?

But first, we will discuss some parts of a motorbike that affect more on a rainy day.

  • BIKE RIM
  • SPOKE WHEELS
  • SUSPENSION
  • NUTS & BOLT
  • BIKE HANDLEBAR
  • BIKE SWITCHES
  • WIRES
  • BIKE CHROME AREA
  • BIKE CHAIN
  • BRAKES

The bike rim affects more in the rainy season, rust forms very fast in the bike rim. All chrome and metal parts of the bike get rusty.

All these things have a high chance to form rusty layers on your bike in the monsoon.

NOISE ISSUE

The worst thing, when your bike making different types of noises like “chu-chu-chu”. Your disc makes the sound, swing arm, suspension all moving parts make sounds in the rainy season.

These are effective parts that are very important to maintain on a rainy day.

Bike Maintenance Tips For Monsoon Season

1. SERVICING

If your bike servicing time is near or your servicing time went then I recommend you to service your motorcycle as soon as possible. I must say do not ignore your bike servicing in the monsoon.

No matter where you go to service your bike, in a service center or any local garage.

The rainwater mixed with mud can create a gritty film on the bike’s surface, leading to corrosion and rust.

In monsoon whenever you service your bike focused on both mechanical and electrical parts, like switches, wires, and battery, you should know which bike parts change or repairs at what time.

2. BRAKES

Your bike’s brake affects more in monsoon season. Your bike’s brake efficiency becomes low on rainy days and chances of brake failure increase.

So if your bike has a drum brake then you should open the bike brake drum to clean properly.

If your bike has a disc brake then check the disc efficiency with brake oil if you feel the brake oil is low then fill the brake oil. Do not ride your bike with low brake oil in the monsoon.

The most important point is if your motorbike brake pad and brake shoe rubbed too much and become small then do not ignore them, just change them ASAP.

3. TYRE

Most of the time we saw that people still ride their bikes when the tyre gripping is lost. The tyre surface becomes flat and they still ride their bike.

But in the rainy season, your bike will scate or slip because of the flat tyre surface which causes accidents.

If you ever notice, you know the number of accidents in the rainy season is more than in other seasons.

Always remember if our bike tyre trades are less than 2-3mm then do not ride your bike.

If your bike tyre trade is 2-3mm then it’s ok but if it’s lesser than 2-3mm it is not advisable to ride the bike.

So first change the bike tyre and then ride and ride safely.

Always notice your bike tyre pressure, and maintain the tyre pressure which is given in your bike service manual. Maintain the air pressure on both rear and front tyres.

Do not fill more air on your bike tyre because it is also caused by slipping the tyre in a monsoon while riding.

Maintain the tyre air pressure recommended in your bike service manual.

4. LUBRICANT

Lubrication is also very important for your bike lubrication of levers or cables of your bike, brake lever, clutch lever, gear lever, brake cable, clutch cable, and choke cable.

Lubricate this with grease or you can also use any brand lubricant.

Because in monsoon rusting formed in these areas and did not work smoothly. So for a safe drive, these parts and areas have to run smoothly.

You can also maintain this by yourself no need to go to any service centre or garage. Just lubricate these areas by yourself.

5. CHAIN DRIVE SET

Most caring parts in monsoon.

Those who have a bike with an open chain system need more care of their chain drive set. In monsoon sand and soil stuck inside the chain will reduce the efficiency of the chain drive system.

Technical Knowledge

For your kind of information, I will tell you that this chain drive system is the most important part of your bike.

These chains produce engine power when the petrol burn which is sent to the rear tyre. So if it does not work properly then the energy losses, power losses. In other words, your bike gives less mileage.

If your bike has an open-chain system then in every 200-300km clean and lubricate your bike chain in the monsoon.

If your bike has a closed chain system then in every 400-500km clean and lubricate your bike chain monsoon.

I suggest WD40 rust cleaner or you can go with any other rust cleaner to remove rust.

The kerosene compound available in WD40 protects your bike from rust and your bike contact becomes clean.

How to use WD40 spray on your bike?

Just spray on every area where rust easily formed and then wipe. You can also use this on your bike chain, nuts & bolts, switches, and stands.

WD40, gear oil, rust cleaner, and engine oil you can use any of these to lubricate but gear oil and engine oil, time consume more to lubricate because these should apply by using cotton and then wiping.

6. AIR FILTER

During monsoon moisture in the air is very high and when this air passes through the air filter then your bike air filter contains more moisture which leads to jamming the air filter and did not supply the proper air in the engine system which means more consumption of petrol which direct effect on your pocket.

Less air more petrol. So clean or change the air filter timely.

7. PARKING

It is very important where you parked your motorcycle in the monsoon. Because in a motorcycle, the engine and other parts are totally exposed.

So when you park your bike in an open area in the monsoon, the water gets inside the engine and other parts which causes rusting.

And these rusts make huge problems in future with your bike and maybe you have to change the parts in future. You should know the duration of bike parts which is given in the service manual.

Always remember to park your bike under shade or use a cover.

Things You Should Avoid In Monsoon.

i. Do not leave your bike outside on a rainy day and if you have no option then use a good quality bike cover or shade.

ii. If you come from a muddy ride then do not wash your bike immediately. Just leave your bike for 1-2 hours to normal and then wash and wipe all the mud.

Just try to maintain your bike more on a rainy day as compared to a normal day.

Just little maintenance increases your bike life. You know the Monsoon season is just for 3-4 months just for these months maintain your bike properly.

Give one day in a week to your bike.

Safe Drive Happy Drive.
